Good morning lovely readers of the Goddess Blog and welcome to another Monday and another beginning of the week with your one and only Goddess! For today I had in store a very sex post for you guys, but I decided to postpone it for tomorrow - as today I will be sharing my thoughts with you guys about the yesterday’s Oscars incident that took place. Sorry but it is just stronger than me! :D And as always, be sure to drop in some lovely cups of coffee with your Goddess to show your appreciation!
There's only one rule: no-one hits anyone. That rule was broken at today's Oscars, and it was a slap heard around the world.
It's also a reminder that words can hurt but violence is never the answer. Two men need to hang their heads in shame, and no-one should be applauding either of them.
Comedian Chris Rock was presenting an award and had a poor-taste joke about Jada Pinkett Smith fall flat.
"Jada, I love ya," Rock said. "GI Jane 2, can't wait to see it. Alright?"
He was making a joke about the actress' shaved head. Pinkett Smith has been very open about her battle with hair loss due to alopecia since 2018. She has also worked tirelessly to remove the stigma associated with the condition.
Pinkett Smith rolled her eyes and glared at Rock.
However, what happened next is not acceptable. Her husband, Will Smith, shocked the world by getting up from his seat, walking on stage and slapping Rock in the face. Hard.
The audience in the room was certainly shocked and some thought it was a skit, but when Rock recovered and said, "Will Smith just smacked the s--t out of me!" Smith returned to his seat and shouted, "Keep my wife's name out of your f---ing mouth!" Twice.
It was assault, plain and simple. Smith should have been ejected from the auditorium.
Smith played Richard Williams in the movie King Richard, the story of the father/coach of Venus and Serena Williams. He was the favourite to win Best Actor and, yes, he won.
So, in one night he was a winner and a loser. A hero and a zero.
The award-winning actor attempted an apology in his speech, saying: "I hope the Academy invites me back."
I hope they don't.
I hope Rock is not invited back, either.
I hope Pinkett Smith is okay.
Smith should have been forced to miss his moment of glory in accepting the Oscar for Best Actor. But the Academy failed to act and for that, they should be condemned.
Instead, Smith cried through his acceptance speech and seemed to defend his actions by likening himself to Richard Williams, saying he was a man who was also known as "a fierce defender of his family."
In his speech he addressed the assault, saying, "I know to do what we do; you've got to be able to take abuse. You've got to be able to have people disrespecting you and you've got to smile, and you've got to pretend like that's okay… I look like the crazy father, just like they said… love will make you do crazy things."
To me that sounds like domestic violence: "He loves me but… he hits people to show it."
The failure of the Academy, and in turn many in Hollywood, to condemn him is simply not good enough.
While the Academy has since responded, tweeting "The Academy does not condone violence of any form", they did in fact condone it, only an hour earlier tweeting their congratulations to the actor.
The Academy certainly wanted more viewers, and thanks to this they will have them for all the wrong reasons, with the message that anything goes in Hollywood the only one we've learnt from this mess.
On a day that Smith should have been celebrated as an outstanding performer, all that will be remembered is his temper. His moment to shine has become a dark shadow on his career.
Remember guys and girls: Violence.. is never the answer :)
That is it for today’s post guys! I hope you didnt mind me putting my 2 cents in this whole weird Oscars situation :)
Goddess loves you all, I will be back tomorrow with another post - sexy post that is! :D
